Toying Around With Lincoln LogsI used to look forward to going to my grandmother's house for visits. She always had the best toys and never minded that we cluttered up her living room with toys galore. My cousins and I would build huge houses from Lincoln logs and pretend that huge storms would knock them over. We'd put those Lincoln logs right back together and do it all over again. Those are some of my fondest childhood memories. My grandmother passed away recently and those boxes of Lincoln logs now reside at my house. I haven't quite taken them out of the boxes to allow my children to play with them. I suppose I'm still simply holding onto my memories and not wanting to release them. What amazes me is that you can still buy Lincoln logs. They have changed quite a bit in some ways, but they also still sell the classic Lincoln logs that I grew up playing with. Now they have some that are geared more towards preschoolers and children who might not yet be able to build with the smaller pieces. I smile every time I see some for sale in a store. What I find truly amazing is that there is a company called the Original Lincoln Logs. They build the absolute most beautiful log houses. The moment I discovered their site, I was captivated. A childhood fantasy of mine was to someday live in a house just like the ones I made out of Lincoln logs. I wanted to have a lots of land and a huge log home. Of course, not all dreams come true. So when I found this site and this company, I started to look into making this fantasy more of a reality. Financially, there was no way it was possible, but I made it a point to work towards it. Some of their creations are just too gorgeous to not want. My husband said that he had no desire to live in a log home. He let me drag him to a local Lincoln log dealer just to appease me, and he walked out with stars in his eyes. He was in love as well. I'm not sure that I will ever be able to afford to make my Lincoln log home fantasy turn into a reality. I do know that those Lincoln logs that I played with for hours and hours when I was a child touched a certain part of me many years ago, and they still do. I also know that someday, I will pass those boxes of treasured Lincoln logs down to my children to play with and enjoy. For right now, I'm not ready to let go of them just yet.
